The 2017 Dayton 500 is 500 miles long, or 200-lap exhibition race to kick off the NASCAR season live from Daytona International Speedway in Florida. New this season, the Daytona 500 will consist of two 60-lap stages.
followed by a final 80-lap stage to make up the 200 scheduled laps. At the conclusion of Stage 1 and Stage 2, there will be a caution period for drivers to come down pit road if they choose. Green-flag restarts will begin the next segment. The top-10 finishers in each stage will be awarded additional championship points.
The month February is known as the speed week for Daytona 500 NASCAR race, Rolex 24 sports car race, and others the Daytona International Speedway hosts the annual 24 Hours of Daytona . In this event 200,000 NASCAR fans come to attend the season-opening Daytona 500. It is the first race event every year of what is now a 26 race regular season, which is followed by a 10 race “Chase” for the Sprint Cup Championship.
The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, Powershares 300 and Camping World Truck Series will hit Daytona International Speedway in February for the season-opening Daytona Speedweeks. Check out the full schedule below.
